Our People
Alkis LEMBESSIS established the Hellenic Institute of Holography (HIH) in 1987 and is currently acting as its chief Administrator. Born in 1958 in Athens, where he enjoyed high-school formation at the French Catholic LYCEE LEONIN of the Frères Maristes. Graduated from the University of Piraeus with an Honours degree in Economics and followed post-graduate studies in Energy Economics with an M.Sc. degree from the Univ. of Surrey (UK). He speaks fluently English, French and... Greek. His private interests focus on the convergence of technology with Fine Arts.
CARREER:
- Private business activities in Sweden, Belgium and Holland (1983-1988).
- Deputy Director of the British-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce (1988-1992).
- Since 1993 and to this date successfully pursuing international business carreer in Security Printing Supplies out of Holland, Greece and Poland.
- Elected Board member of the Int'l Hologram Manufacturers Association (IHMA,2004-2008).
- National Committee President of AIESEC-Hellas, board member of YMCA-Athens and of various non-political NGOs with European orientation.
- Registered member of the Greek Economic Chamber.
His award by the Int'l Association of Hologram Manufacturers (IHMA) with the Brian Monaghan Award 2018 for Business Innovation signifies the industry's appreciation for a 30-year long professional career in a multitude of application areas involving holography (security printing, product & document authentication, display holography and the organization of thematic edutainment exhibitions).
Andreas SARAKINOS acts as Scientific Director for the Hellenic Institute of Holography. Born in Corfu in 1955, he graduated from the Physics Department of the Physics and Mathematics School of the University of Athens in 1978. He speaks English and Greek. He has been working as a physics teacher in private secondary education since1981.
During 1981-1985 he worked in developing and constructing high-power laser subsystems and low noise data acquisition systems for the account of laboratories of the Institute of Theoretical and Physical Chemistry of the National Hellenic Research Foundation.
He has been active in Holography since 1985 following its development over time whilst focusing on research and development in Optical Holography for commercial applications. For many years, he operated the only non-academic Holographic Laboratory in Greece.
In 1994 he supervised the development of the novel integral digital holography system MVH (Multichannel Video Holography) funded by the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Development.
He has done research in the optimization of chemical processing of silver halide holographic emulsions and has developed hardware and software for hot-stamping equipment for embossed holograms. Since 2002 he has been active in lenticular 3D and has developed proprietary interlacing software and techniques for lenticular printing.
In 2015 he was awarded the DENISYUK MEDAL, D.S. Rozhdestvensky Optical Society, Russia , for the implementation of new technologies in the recording of color Denisyuk holograms.
He leads the R&D for OptoClones and their associated systems for recording and display.
He has participated in all international research and vocational projects of the Hellenic Institute of Holography and has given numerous lectures about optical holography in major academic institutions in Greece.
